For the past two weeks, I found myself submerged in the sounds of JYD. In a previous post I referred to him as ‘The new kid on the bass block’ , well this new kid does not hold anything back, and this is evident on his debut EP release TRiBE.
After the release of his single Konvrsationz a couple of months ago, JYD has received an abundance of acclaim as well as recognition as an artist. Konvrsationz really helped to elevate his position within the Cape Town BASS scene, and made him one of the key players within it. As a result of the success of Konvrsationz there was a lot of hype and anticipation around the official release of TRiBE.
The sonic journey this EP takes you on, is nothing short of special. It oozes sex appeal, and is described as Nu-age sex musiq by its creator, which is a more than accurate description. Each track is carefully crafted and exhibits the potential JYD has an artist.
It holds a sound which is different from anything currently being heard in Cape Town’s BASS scene, and alludes heavily to what is happening internationally. It also reminds me of the likes of Soulection and the movement and sound they are pushing internationally.
