Today marks the official launch of a new project called The New Slang created by one of Cape Town’s most revered DJ’s, Sideshow.
The New Slang is a project where up and coming producers are given the opportunity to remix a track by a more established producer. The best remixes are chosen, and then released in two volumes.
For this first installment of The New Slang a track by Cape Tonian producer Dank, was chosen to be remixed. The word was sent out to all budding producers interested, and eventually 4 were chosen as the best remixes.
The first volume, contains the remixes of Vox Portent and JYD. Both producers easily hold their own with the original, and are able to effectively give it their own twist and feel.
The New Slang is undoubtedly a project which has great potential and the ability to enrich the scene with something different.
Volume 2 will be released on Monday, with the other remix winners FI$H and Jarryd Kellet showcasing their take on the original.
The official launch and release of The New Slang will be celebrated tonight at Fiction in Long Street, Cape Town including artists Sircula and Will Kill.
